What is a Fact Find
A Fact Find is a simple, step-by-step questionnaire that helps us understand your financial situation, goals, and the type of advice you need.
It is one of the most important steps in providing you with high-quality, personalised financial advice. By completing the Fact Find, you give us the necessary information to assess your current position and recommend the most suitable options for you.
You can complete it in your own time, at your own pace. The questions are written in plain English and are designed to be straightforward for you to answer. As you progress, the system may ask additional questions based on your responses to ensure we have a complete and accurate understanding.

Once you have completed your Fact Find, we will be notified and will contact you shortly after to discuss your financial advice.
Documents you will review and sign
As part of our 6-step advice process and to meet our regulatory obligations with the Financial Markets Authority (FMA), we ask you to review and sign a small number of important documents. These provide a clear record of our engagement and protect both you and us.
We’ve designed this process to be as simple as possible. Most documents can be reviewed and signed at your convenience.
Here are the common documents you will typically be asked to sign:
- Nature and Scope of Advice: This outlines the financial advice you are seeking and confirms how we will work together. It is based on your initial goals and ensures we focus on what matters most to you.
- Fact Find Confirmation: This confirms that the information you have provided in your Fact Find is accurate and complete. It forms the foundation for the advice we prepare.
- Statement of Advice (or Recommendations) This document details the personalised recommendations we have prepared for you, including the reasons behind them. It is based on your Fact Find, our discussions, and research with lenders or product providers.
- Disclosure Statements We provide two key disclosures: one at the start of our engagement and another when we present our recommendations. These clearly explain our services, fees, and any potential conflicts of interest.
Depending on your specific situation, additional documents may be required (for example, lender application authorities or insurance declarations). We will always explain each document clearly before you sign.
Documents you may need to provide
During the lending or insurance application process, banks and insurers often require supporting documents to verify your information and assess your application.
Your adviser will let you know exactly what is needed for your specific situation. You can easily upload these documents directly through your secure client dashboard when requested — no need to email or post them.
For Lending / Home Loan Applications
Common documents banks typically request include:
- Proof of Identity — NZ Driver’s Licence or Passport (to verify who you are).
- Proof of Income — Recent payslips (usually 2–3 months), employment contract, or Inland Revenue (IR) tax summaries. Self-employed applicants may need financial statements or tax returns for the last 1–2 years.
- Bank Statements — Usually the last 3 months, showing your income, expenses, and savings.
- Proof of Deposit — Evidence of where your deposit is coming from (e.g. savings account statements, KiwiSaver withdrawal confirmation, or gift letters).
- Expense Details — Information about your regular outgoings (some banks ask for a budget summary).
These documents help lenders confirm you can comfortably afford the loan repayments.
For Insurance Applications
Insurers commonly request:
- Proof of Identity — Passport or Driver’s Licence.
- Financial Information — Proof of income or net worth (especially for larger cover amounts).
- Health-related Documents — Medical reports, GP notes, or blood test results (if requested after your health declaration).
- Existing Insurance Details — Information about any current policies you hold.
These help the insurer accurately assess your application and set appropriate premiums.
Privacy and information handling
Your information and confidentiality
We collect and use personal information to provide advice and services, meet legal and regulatory obligations, and communicate with you. We take reasonable steps to protect your information and only share it where necessary (for example, with product providers to implement recommendations) or where required by law.
